Osiyo and welcome! Cherokees have long believed that “as a whole we live.” This is the designed purpose of the Central Oklahoma Cherokee Alliance (COCA), a Cherokee tribal town embracing the over 10,000 Cherokee Citizens who have made their homes in and around the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.
Building Community
Central Oklahoma Cherokee Alliance (COCA) is a Cherokee Community Group serving central Oklahoma and providing a social, educational, and tribal network for Cherokees in the greater Oklahoma City area.
Raising Awareness
We strive to raise awareness and building community for those interested in Cherokee language, history, culture, and our tribal government. Both Cherokee Citizens and friends are welcome to attend our meetings. We look forward to learning and growing together.
Representing a Nation
COCA was organized in early 2008. The inaugural meeting was held on June 19th in Oklahoma City, appropriately enough at the Will Rogers Theatre. Over 200 Cherokees and friends attended. COCA was formed as an unincorporated association and has maintained strong ties with our government and the many other at-large tribal communities across the United States. Since inception, COCA has hosted many monthly meetings with special guests ranging from our Chiefs and Tribal Councilors, to Cherokee storytellers, historians, and traditional artists. We believe that regular gathering, discussion, and sharing a meal together allows us to stay connected to one another and strengthening our tribalness.
All are welcome to attend COCA meetings, and there are no dues. Donations to help with the expense of refreshments and meetings materials are always appreciated.
